Egypt

I can highly recommend anyone traveling to Egypt to get off the beaten path. Our journey followed south along the river Nile, down to Aswan where we followed a Felucca north, hopped on a bus and traveled to Sinai part of Egypt. In Sinai you find the Red Sea, mountains and the popular tourist attractions.

1. Pyramids of Giza

Number one attraction of Egypt will always be the majestic pyramids. You can get an appriciation for the size of these by comparing the trucks on the road. Imagining all of these being built by hand is simply astounding.

2. Village Chief

South in Aswan we came by this village along one of the arms of the river Nile. They are living content lives with little more than their sandstone houses, crops and families.

3. The Sphinx

When you first see the Sphinx you start to understand just how much effort lies behind the ancient Egyptian culture. Their hieroglyphs, figures, pyramids and artwork was all a part of the daily life. Today these monuments stand as a witness to the past. The Sphinx itself is massive, 19 meters tall and its origins traces back to well before 2000BC.

4. Felucca on the Nile

You can easily rent a felucca with crew and sail down the river Nile. I caught this picture at the very last light of the day. the sunsets in Egypt are spectacular, and the soft water and the Felucca added dimension to the scene.

5. Sunrise from Mt. Sinai

Getting up 4 AM and hiking for two hours might not be something you do every day. But to catch the sun as it was rising on Mt. Sinai was for sure worth it. The mountain is most famous for being the site where, according to biblical studies, Moses received the ten commandments.

6. Village Kid

Not a lot of foreigners have visited this village in Egypt. She came out and paid close attention as our group was descending back to the river.

7. Birds

Birds were flying in formation around this praying site, preparing for their trek north probably.

8. Aswan

To me, Aswan is the city in Egypt with the most character. It is beautifully situated next to the river Nile. From Aswan tourists, can grab a cruise down the river, visit the ancient burial sites and visit ancient temples.

9. Sunrise

We were going to do a balloon ride this morning, but due to technical issues the sunrise would suffice. It is beautiful however, as the sun peaks over the horizon.

10. Soaring

A lucky shot of these two birds.
